Dreger on Burmistrov's availability from Jets, Leafs' interest
/Darren Dreger was on Winnipeg’s TSN 1290 on Wednesday afternoon.
On if he thinks Alex Burmistrov is available from the Winnipeg Jets, and if the Leafs have interest:
“Well, I know teams have asked about Burmistrov and I believe that the Toronto Maple Leafs were one of those. Do I think he would trade his rights? Absolutely, I think he would trade his rights.
“He’s not helping the Winnipeg Jets playing in the KHL. And if he doesn’t have an appetite to move back to the NHL and play with Winnipeg, then what’s the point in holding onto his playing rights? You might as well turn that into something that can help you in the here and now.
“Do I think that Chevy is shopping Burmistrov’s rights? No, I don’t believe that to the case. But I do sense there is a willingness to part with it or was a willingness to part with it if there was a deal that made sense.
“And I can tell you that Toronto was one of those teams that did have interest in the rights of Burmistrov even with the gamble and the fact that it wouldn’t be easy perhaps to get him out of the KHL.”
