McKenzie: Canucks, Canadiens, Capitals, Coyotes also wanted Kane
/Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN’s NHL Live on Wednesday evening.
On who was interested in Evander Kane, despite the injury:
“A lot of teams did drop by the wayside. The Boston Bruins were interested. The Pittsburgh Penguins were interested. The Anaheim Ducks. As soon as they found out Kane was injured and couldn’t get him for the stretch drive and the playoffs, their interest dropped off.
“But there were teams. The Vancouver Canucks. Currently in a playoff spot. Kane’s hometown is Vancouver. The Canucks really put together an attractive package, but not nearly good enough compared to what Buffalo offered.
“The Montreal Canadiens were another team that’s in the playoffs, that kicked tires on Evander Kane.
“And then you’ve got other bottom-feeders, if you will. The Arizona Coyotes, near the bottom of the league like the Buffalo Sabres, also got into the mix a little bit.
“But Vancouver was most certainly one of the teams in along with the Montreal Canadiens - and the Washington Capitals, another playoff team – that were in there on Evander Kane.
“But the deal with the Jets, because of the Tyler Myers factor, was just too much for Winnipeg to pass up.”
