Cheveldayoff outlines KHL-to-NHL re-entry procedure for Burmistrov
/Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke with the media on Wednesday afternoon.
On what the process would be to bring Alex Burmistrov back to play for the Jets, and when that first could happen:
“Alex Burmistrov is a restricted free agent that is on our reserve list. When his contract expired, he was essentially free to sign anywhere that he wanted and there was an opportunity for him to play in the KHL that he wanted to take a look at.
“I think if you go back to the time that we talked about when that happened, we said obviously we wish him well, we’ll continue to monitor him. He’s a young prospect in – I guess more than a prospect – a young player in our organization and we’ll continue to monitor him.
“He had a two-year deal and his deal will be up at the end of the year. Just like any restricted free agent, the opportunity is back there to be able to be signed into the National Hockey League if he so chooses, and we’ll see where things fall in that regard.”
That would all be for next year though?
“Yeah, you can’t sign a contracted player, an RFA, after – there’s a date in the middle of the season that essentially in the CBA says you can’t sign a player for the current season.”
