LeBrun: Blues, Flyers well-matched for Senators on trade front

Pierre LeBrun was on Ottawa’s TSN 1200 on Monday afternoon.

On how Bryan Murray said earlier in the day he’s looking for a Bobby Ryan-type of trade to help his top-6, and which players/teams might be a good fit:

“I will give you a few teams to keep an eye on if that’s the kind of thing that Bryan Murray is looking for. And I did hear that a few weeks ago, that he was looking for a top-6 forward and clearly not a rental. I mean, the Senators are 10 points out. As he said on your station, he’s looking for something that can help them out down the road here.

“But here’s a couple of teams to think of. One is the St. Louis Blues. I think in the Blues’ case, I think the offseason would be a better time to address this. But they are loaded up front. They have guys in the A that are ready to be upgraded.

“Remember, they added some pieces last summer and didn’t lose anyone. And Vladimir Sobotka could come back from Russia and play for the Blues. So they have a lot of pieces up front and I think at some point Doug Armstrong probably has to move a forward, and he’s got a number of interesting candidates there.

“And again, I think he’d probably want to wait until the offseason, but you never know. If the right offer is there. They’re a bit overloaded, and so that’s a team I would target. Earlier this year the Bruins were talking to St. Louis and were actually physically scouting them for quite awhile. In the end nothing got done, but that’s a team I would look at.

“Another team is Philadelphia, only in the sense that eventually the Flyers have to revamp their blueline and I think their position of strength is up front. So that’s a team I would check into as well.”
