Murray: Senators "need to add another top-6 guy"
/Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray was on Ottawa’s TSN 1200 on Monday morning.
On his trade thoughts:
“But we still need to add another top-6 guy. Bobby Ryan, he’s a legitimate top-6 guy. If we had one more player to play there, and move one of the younger guys back a notch, I think it would help our hockey team a lot.
“But I spent yesterday going through the rosters of pretty much every team and the evaluation we have was it’s hard to get that player, if it’s possible at all, other than going real low in the draft and waiting for a young guy to come along. But we’d like to hurry that process up. I’m going to continue to talk to people and search, but I know it’s going to be difficult.”
On looking for a top-6 player via trade who is young, has term, and will be with the team:
“Yes. The Bobby Ryan trade was an example of what I’d be looking to try to do where you pay a couple of chips to get an established guy, maybe that doesn’t fit or is unable to fit in the cap or whatever it may be on another team. I don’t think there’s a lot of them available, but we’re going to keep looking.”
