McKenzie links Ducks, Red Wings to Myers trade talk
/Bob McKenzie was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Friday afternoon.
On what he’s hearing on the Anaheim Ducks and Tyler Myers:
“It’s been ongoing all season. I mean, Tim Murray is listening and listening hard on Tyler Myers.
“He’s a young defenseman that has had an up and down time of it. He was rookie of the year. It looked like he was going to be a dominant defenseman. That domination has not happened because of the consistency issue.
“It’s hard for some people to get a full read on Tyler Myers because the Buffalo Sabres for a number of years now have not been a very good hockey team, and you wonder if he’s kind of lost his way. And there have been stretches this season where he has looked like a dominant defenseman. But there have been too many other times where the valley is real deep in terms of not getting the job done and not looking like a hugely tradable asset.
“But again, he’s still a relatively young defenseman. 24, 25 years old. Whatever he is. And Tim Murray is going to be asking a huge price in return, as he should. It makes those deals difficult to do.
“But Anaheim has been looking for a defenseman. Has been talking to Buffalo. Detroit has been looking for a defenseman. Have been talking to Buffalo. But a lot of these are ongoing conversations.
“And if some teams think the price for Chris Stewart or Drew Stafford out of Buffalo is high, you can’t even imagine what they think about what the price would be for Tyler Myers. But rightfully so, when you’re dealing with a 24, 25-year-old defenseman who’s got those physical tools, even though his all-around game is not where you want it to be right now.”
