Sabres' Stewart addresses trade speculation
/Sabres winger Chris Stewart was on Buffalo’s WGR 550 on Friday morning.
On if there have been any contract talks with the Buffalo Sabres:
“No. There hasn’t been anything yet.”
On if he wonders where it’s going to lead in the next few weeks, or if he doesn’t allow himself to do that:
“It’s kind of hard not to. I’d be a liar if I said I was oblivious to all the stuff that you read online and you have family members calling you saying they heard this and heard that. I said earlier in the year you kind of get stressed out about it. But now I’ve realized that it’s out of your control and there’s nothing you can really do about it. Just worry about playing good hockey and if it happens it happens. We’ll be ready for it when that time comes.”
On how he loves it in Buffalo, but he also knows it’s a huge year for him, and if he gets traded it would be to a contender, and winning is at the top of the list:
“For sure. Like you said, that does happen. That’s why we play this game. We play this game to win a Stanley Cup and everyone knows that when the real season starts, is the playoffs. If that time comes and I do get a chance, I’ll be chomping at the bit to play for the Cup. Like you said, that’s everyone’s dream come true and I’ll try to run with it.”
On how this year is completely different than last year, going from a contender to a team that wasn’t contending:
“No exactly, the situation is kind of ironic. It’s kind of the exact reverse. Last year I went from the first-place team in the league to the last-place team in the league. That was definitely a huge letdown for me personally. Just showing you’re going to lose that competitor’s edge where you thought you were preparing to win a Stanley Cup. This year, once again, I’m on a last-place team and there’s rumors of me being traded to teams contending for the playoffs. So it’s definitely been a roller coaster, to say the least.”
