Insider Trading
/Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie were on TSN’s Insider Trading on Thursday evening.
LeBrun: Jagr trade yields good return for New Jersey Devils.
McKenzie, on who the Chicago Blackhawks are after post-Kane injury: "Right now if I were to chart which team is most interested in making a deal, I would put the Chicago Blackhawks at the top of that list. If I was to chart which player was the most in demand, I'd put Antoine Vermette from the Arizona Coyotes at the top of that list. Well, the Chicago Blackhawks are one of a half a dozen teams seriously interested in Vermette and there's no question in my mind that Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman wants to spend that Patrick Kane long-term injury relief money on guys that will be unrestricted free agents at the end of the year. That's Antoine Vermette. Curtis Glencross from the Calgary Flames is another primary target. Cam Atkinson, who is a restricted free agent at the end of this year from the Columbus Blue Jackets. (Those are) players Chicago is looking at."
LeBrun, on who the Washington Capitals are looking at: "Well, they haven't made themselves heard yet before the trade deadline, but they intend to. They'd like to add a top-6 forward. Again, you'll hear some of the same names because a lot of the same names are being sought after right now. But they have interest in Erik Cole, and in particular believe that Cole's skating ability can really fit in. They like Curtis Glencross. They also have looked in on Joffrey Lupul of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Obviously he's not a free agent, so that's a bigger deal, but he's been on their radar as well."
Dreger: "Things are heating up around the Toronto Maple Leafs. You're right - Lupul, possible connection to the Washington Capitals is among the things of interest to Dave Nonis. In the moment it makes sense. The Capitals are looking for some help on the left side with Alexander Ovechkin. But there's no guarantee, clearly, that Lupul is going to be traded. Nor is there any guarantee that Tyler Bozak or Dion Phaneuf will be traded in the days ahead leading up to Monday, or on deadline day. But know this - there is a lot of interest and activity around those three players."
LeBrun, on what the Boston Bruins will do: "They want a winger and do they ever. It's been something Peter Chiarelli has been going after at least for a month now in a very serious manner, making a lot of calls. Chris Stewart - they've had that dance going all year with the Buffalo Sabres. They're still in on him. Erik Cole - that's a little more new, but they have interest in him. Cam Atkinson. Curtis Glencross. One of those rental wingers is a player that the Bruins would love to hem in before Monday."
Dreger, on if a Jeff Petry trade is any closer: "No closer. The offers aren't at a point yet where Craig MacTavish is willing to pull the trigger. I mean, they've had some dialog back and forth between Newport Sports and the Oilers on the potential of re-signing, but that's unlikely as well, so MacTavish will continue to wait."
Dreger: Canucks wanted NHL to investigate if Cal Clutterbuck spit on Daniel Sedin in Sunday's game. League found no evidence any of this took place.
