Countdown to TradeCentre: Senators Outlook

Bob McKenzie was on TSN on Thursday evening.

On what the Ottawa Senators are looking to do:

“They're selling, but there's not a - I don't think there's a real expectation there's going to be a giant makeover of the Ottawa Senators at the deadline.

"You've got Erik Condra, who's got an expiring contract. They can move him if possible. Colin Greening, who has two years left on his deal,. He's in the minors. That's a tough one to sell. David Legwand, he's got a year left on his deal. They would be open to deals on that, but they're not absolutely trying to push him out the door. Chris Phillips - if he wants to go, they will try to facilitate him, but with a year left on his deal that may be a tough one. Patrick Wiercioch is a young defenceman who hasn't played regularly for Ottawa, but he's certainly available.

"Now the question I wonder about Darren, is there a defenceman not named Erik Karlsson that the Ottawa Senators might ship out to try and get the forward they would need at the deadline. They're trying to get more scoring. That's certainly been their need all year long."

Can they do that, do you think?

"Well, there's a possibility. You've got Methot, but they just signed him. You've got Cowen. You've got Gryba. Those guys have been part of their core group on the blueline, so we'll see. If somebody wants one of those guys, make an offer.

"They're not trying to ship any of them out the door, but they also know at some point they're going to have to give up something of value if they want to get back something of value to get scoring up front."
