Dreger: "Jets would have considerable interest in Daniel Winnik"

Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Thursday evening.

On what the trade market looks like for Daniel Winnik:

“Well, it’s not open yet, to be honest. But as soon as it opens, then that market is going to be fairly expansive. I mean, there are teams that are more than kicking tires on the Toronto Maple Leafs trying to get Winnik, as we talked about yesterday or the day before.

“The Pittsburgh Penguins made an offer last week. I know that the Winnipeg Jets would have considerable interest in Daniel Winnik. The Jets were in it right to the end in the offseason trying to sign Winnik as an unrestricted free agent. He went for location and he opted to go to Toronto.

“So I know Cheveldayoff was part of a group of as many as 20 teams represented last night in New Jersey watching the Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs. Winnik most definitely would be high on Cheveldayoff’s want list as he looks for a top-9 forward.”
