McKenzie: No question Leafs will try to trade Lupul
/Bob McKenzie was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Thursday afternoon.
On the likelihood that the Leafs may trade Joffrey Lupul before the trade deadline:
“Oh, I don’t think there’s any question they will try to move him. I don’t know what the market will be for him. Joffrey, when he’s on a tear, is a real good offensive hockey player. He’s got a big body that can play in the Western Conference and understands what it takes to play in the Western Conference. I could absolutely see him being an important acquisition for a team that’s looking to improve its offensive depth.
“The problem, and everybody knows it, is that he’s quite often injured. And when he’s not injured, he’s not always on a hot streak. But boy, if he gets on that hot streak at just the right time, he can be a game-changer.
“So I think the Leafs will try to move him. I think he falls into the same category as some of the other guys they’ve got under contract. And hey, quite frankly, I don’t think there’s anybody on this Leafs team, outside of Morgan Reilly and maybe James van Riemsdyk, that they wouldn’t consider parting with. And the question then becomes who’s a hot enough commodity on the market to justify moving him.”
