Dreger: "Maybe Marc Bergevin isn't quite done yet"
/Darren Dreger was on TSN 1040 Tuesday morning.
On the Montreal Canadiens acquiring Sergei Gonchar from the Dallas Stars for Travis Moen and if this is just cap help for both teams:
“Yeah, to some degree, although from the Montreal Canadiens’ perspective although you give up the extra year Travis Moen still has owing on his contract, you’re taking the majority of the $5 million that Sergei Gonchar is going to earn this year. I know that Jim Nill and the Dallas Stars retained eight percent of the salary, but that’s not a whole lot.

“This is one of those deals where Marc Bergevin is trying to create a bit of space up front. He’s had Jiri Sekac in and out of the lineup, which is primarily why Rene Bourque was waived and has cleared and is headed to Hamilton. But he wants to make sure his younger players are getting a better look.
“But by adding a veteran defenceman who makes a healthy sum, he’s also created a problem on the back end because they now have eight NHL defencemen around. So maybe Marc Bergevin isn’t quite done yet.”
