Friedman: Kings "will get a defenseman"

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Friday morning.

On names he’s hearing on the NHL trade scene:

“The L.A. Kings are going to be a big one. They lost again last night. They choked away a game in Florida. How many times did the L.A. Kings blow third period leads in the last couple of years. And they blew a big one again last night to a team that was really on the ropes.

“They’re going to do something. They’re impatient. There’s a real sense that Dean Lombardi always believed in his team the last few years, that we could get a piece and we could do something. He was proven right. I don’t think he believes in this group anymore. He’s looking at them like they need help and we need help.

“They’re going to get a defenseman. They made a pitch for Dion Phaneuf. They’ve made their interest in Andrej Sekera pretty clear. I believe also they had told Pittsburgh they would be interested in Paul Martin if Pittsburgh wanted to make that move, which I don’t think they do right now.

“But he will go out and he will get a defenseman. It’s just a level of how big that move is going to be. But teams are looking at L.A. and they’re saying, ‘They’re going to do something.”
