Friedman on Petry, Canadiens, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Lightning, Ducks, Stars

Elliotte Friedman was on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Friday afternoon.

On if Jeff Petry’s likely trade destinations would be Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, or Tampa Bay:

“I don’t disagree with any of those names. I wonder where Anaheim is in all of this. That is a team that has used a lot of defencemen this year and is still looking for more. I think those are all good teams. All good choices.

“I think - there was a time I thought Dallas was in this too. I don’t think that’s the case anymore. I think maybe if Dallas thought they could sign him they might still be in this particular thing. But I don’t think that’s relevant anymore here or there.

“But I think those are good choices. The problem with Chicago in this is they’re not really looking for a right-shot defenceman. They were more interested in a left-shot guy, and that’s why they were so interested in Sekera. So I’m not as sure about Chicago.

“But I definitely believe Montreal. I definitely believe Tampa Bay. I would think - Detroit is an obvious one. We’ve all been predicting that for months. Anaheim is the one team I wonder if they’re still in this or not.”

On how it wouldn’t have to be a pick coming back for Petry – it could be a prospect:

“I’ve heard the rumours that Edmonton has kind of looked at a Marchenko, a Sproul, or one of those guys. I would be very, very surprised if Detroit paid that price, especially if it’s a rental.

“I asked around on that. ‘What if it’s something like this?’ I have to tell you, I didn’t find – I could always be wrong, it’s happened once or twice before – but I didn’t find one team that said they thought Detroit would pay that price.”
