McKenzie: Kings' cap crunch leaves Pearson, Toffoli at risk for offer sheets

Bob McKenzie was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Thursday afternoon.

On if the Kings have every intention of re-signing Sekera, given the price they paid to get him:

“Well, again, that’ll be a financial consideration. Sekera – one of the reasons Carolina traded him is they couldn’t sign him and he was looking for money in the $5.5-6 million a year range. So it’s a lot of cabbage.

“And the L.A. Kings... they’ve got to sign Tyler Toffoli. They’ve got to sign Tanner Pearson. They’ve got Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll going to unrestricted free agency. They’ve got to sign Martin Jones. So Jones, Toffoli and Pearson are all restricted free agents. Williams and Stoll, of course, are unrestricted free agents.

“Nobody knows what the cap will be next year. If anything, I’d be more worried – as opposed to trying to figure out whether they’re going to sign Sekera to a deal next year, I might be more concerned about whether someone is going to offer sheet Tanner Pearson or Tyler Toffoli when they’re in a cap crunch next season.”
