Friedman on Petry, Stars, Kings, Canucks, Red Wings
/Elliotte Friedman was on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Friday afternoon.
On what he’s hearing on Jeff Petry:
“I said it for a few months now. I would be surprised if he’s still an Oiler. I don’t think that there’s really any hope they’re going to sign him. I don’t think they want to. I don’t think he wants to. It’s just going to be a matter of time until they find the right deal that makes them happy, or some team steps up and says, ‘We’ve got to have him right now.’
“There’s teams out there looking for a right-shot D. There’s options out there. There’s opportunities out there. Dallas went out and got one in Jason Demers in their trade with San Jose, but I think they’re looking at another. I could see that as a potential possibility.
“To me, L.A. is a team – I don’t know if Petry is going to be a fit there, but L.A. is a team that will definitely be adding at least one defenceman... I don’t know if the Oilers would ever help Vancouver, but you look at what they’re going through with Bieksa out and their defence as a whole struggling, I wonder if they’re a team that would look. Though the Canucks are definitely saying they’re not going to add something at the expense of their prospect base.
“Obviously everyone mentions Detroit.
“I think for a guy who is a right-handed shot defenceman, there are always going to be options.”
