Kings' Futa: Sekera "will write his own ticket"

Los Angeles Kings vice president of hockey operations & director of player personnel Mike Futa was on Sportsnet’s Hockey Central @ Noon on Thursday afternoon.

On if Slava Voynov is able to come back, if the Kings could sign Andrej Sekera:

“That’ll all play out. Right now, depending on the success he has is probably going to dictate what he gets on the open market and we’ll have to address that where it’s at.

“Jeff Solomon has done a great job getting Martinez and Muzzin and Voynov in at great numbers. You’ve got a Slava Voynov with two Cups and these guys like Marty with two Cups and they’re all in in the $4 million dollar range long term.

“So we’re adding a player that sitting in Carolina was looking at a tremendous payday in the off-season. Now he’s coming into a bit of a pressure-cooker.  He’s going to be challenged. He’s only played in eight playoff games and there’s going to be pressure on him, which he wants - which he wants and we’re looking forward to evaluating how he handles the pressure.

“He’s probably – he’s going to write his own ticket as far as whether he’s available on the market or whether he’s comfortable here and whether we’re comfortable paying it.

“But we’ve got to wait to see how things unfold with Slava away from the rink. That being said, you can never have enough good defensemen. If he fits the mold and fits what we’re talking about here, then we’ll find a way to keep him here.”
