Bossy: '83 Oilers were Islanders' toughest Cup opponent

Mike Bossy was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Wednesday morning.

On if a team will ever win four consecutive Cups again:

“Well, I doubt it because unless the salary cap goes to $100 million and you’re able to sign as many stars as we had on our team, I don’t think it’ll happen. Although again, you never know. So it might happen.

“But listen, we won 19 playoff series in a row. If that’s done again in my lifetime, I will make sure that I go to the arena and congratulate the team that did it.”

On which of the four Islanders’ Stanley Cups was the toughest:

“The toughest – I’d say the first was the toughest, only because it was the first. Also, you haven’t been there. You haven’t experienced it. Getting to the finish line the first time I think is extremely difficult.

“I don’t think that the first one that we won was the best team that we won it against. I believe that beating the Oilers in ’83 was the toughest or the best team that we played against, but I think that winning the first Cup was obviously the toughest.”
