Friedman: Teams "definitely interested" in Leafs' Phaneuf
/Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Friday morning.
On Dion Phaneuf:
“I really do think Toronto is at the very least is testing Phaneuf’s trade value in particular. I think they just want to see what his value is, what they can get for him.
“I think there are teams out there who are definitely interested in Dion, depending on what Toronto is willing to do. He’s got a big ticket. He’s got six years left after this year with an average cap hit of $7 million.
“So I think teams are curious to say, ‘Okay, how are you going to make this work?’
“But I do think there will be interest in him. I’ve heard there are teams out there who say he needs to – sort of like Jason Spezza did – move to a quieter environment, where maybe all the pressure isn’t on him, and we think that we can make something of his play.”
