Dreger: Trade talk on Hurricanes' Eric Staal has "gone quiet"

Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Thursday morning.

On the Carolina Hurricanes :

“As an insider, I keep watching the Carolina Hurricanes and Ron Francis, the general manager there, and wondering at what point does the ‘For Sale’ sign go up in terms of some guys. And I know there are some players who are already available. Jiri Tlusty’s name has been out there for a considerable length of time. You can probably pluck one or two veteran defensemen off that blueline if you feel the need. But some of the names that we speculated on earlier in the year - Eric Staal being one of them, maybe Cam Ward - that has all gone quiet for the most part. It might heat up in the second half and as you get closer to the trade deadline if things don’t improve, and Carolina is obviously in the McDavid-Eichel run, but for the most part those big names, they don’t seem to be any longer in play.”
