McKenzie: Kane's suitors include Bruins, Penguins, Canadiens, Ducks, Canucks
/Bob McKenzie was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 on Friday morning.
On how many and which teams would seriously be interested in Evander Kane:
“You’ve got two teams in Boston and Pittsburgh that are primarily looking for – Boston’s been looking for that right-winger all season. Now whether there’s a fit or not because of the salary cap and what they’ve got coming back the other way... but Boston would most definitely be interested in a healthy Evander Kane. I mean, this whole thing’s a moot point if they say he’s got shoulder surgery or if there’s some question if he can finish the season.
“Because if you’re the Boston Bruins or the Pittsburgh Penguins, you’re making this trade obviously for the long-term because he’s only 23 years old. That’s what a lot of people forget about Evander Kane. He’s 23 years old. And that’s still really young by NHL standards.
“But Boston needs a healthy guy to help them make the playoffs, and make noise in the playoffs. Same thing with the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is a team that wants to contend and wants to go all the way and they need a healthy body.
“But those two teams would definitely be interested in him. I think the Montreal Canadiens would be interested in him. I know the Anaheim Ducks would be interested in him. The Vancouver Canucks, being a hometown boy, I know that they’re interested in him.
“There’s no shortage of teams that will inquire about this guy because he’s what everybody looks for in a hockey player - big, strong, fast, skill.
“Now, all those things that come along with it, if you want to call it baggage or whatever, they have to determine whether or not the risk outweighs the expenditure of what it would cost to get him.”
