Custance: "Franson to Detroit makes so much sense"
/Craig Custance was on Buffalo’s WGR 550 on Wednesday morning.
On the trade deadline needs for the Detroit Red Wings:
“Their need is on defense. And so you look at the way that team is constructed. I’m surprised they’ve been as good as they have been. But they’ve also been healthy, which they weren’t at all last year. Outside their goaltender.
“So what they need to succeed is have Jimmy Howard come back. He’s got a target here pretty shortly. So I think they’ll get him back on the ice. They need him playing well. And I think Ken Holland has to address that defense and bring in a top-4 defenseman.
“And the guy that makes the most sense for me with the Detroit Red Wings is Cody Franson in Toronto. He’s a guy that will come in, can play in their top 4. He’s the right-handed shot they’ve been looking for now for a couple of years. And he wouldn’t cost the same price as a Tyler Myers or a Keith Yandle, who’s a left-handed shot.
“So to me, Cody Franson to Detroit makes so much sense.”
