Friedman: Would Red Wings seek Enroth for short-term relief?

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Monday morning.

On what he makes of the Jimmy Howard injury situation in Detroit:

“Well, I know they really love Mrazek. He played an exhibition game in Toronto last year and I remember asking them about him and they said, ‘Oh, it’s not a matter of if, but when.’ I think this is probably sooner than they would have liked, and Howard’s having a really incredible year.

“To me, the biggest question is going to be - He’s out at least until the All-Star break, and you have to assume it’ll probably be longer. I kind of wonder what do the Detroit Red Wings do in terms of, ‘Do we have to add another body?’

“Gustavsson is out too. Their backup now is Thomas McCollum. I wonder if they’re kind of in a position where a guy like Jhonas Enroth or something like that, do they take the chance and go out and get him. To me, that’s going to be the biggest question is how long-term is Howard out? I think they believe in Mrazek. I know they really like him. But my biggest question is how long do they say, ‘We need to get somebody else on a short term because our goaltender depth isn’t that deep.’ ”
