Friedman: Blackhawks may try to land Vermette and Michalek

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet’s 960 on Friday morning.

As part of a discussion on Curtis Glencross:

“I do think Chicago is in a position right now where they want to get something done. They really tried to get Sekera done. They really wanted him and they got beat by L.A.. L.A. was willing to go to a level that Chicago wasn’t.

“So the one thing I also have wondered about Chicago is if they’re trying to get both Vermette and Michalek out of Arizona. There are a couple of teams I think are trying to do that. Michalek’s situation is a little muddy right now because he’s battling a concussion, and I think the Coyotes know their best chance of getting value for him right now is by packaging him with Vermette. I think Chicago is a team that would do that.

“So Glencross might be a bit of a fallback for them right now if they can’t get Vermette done, but I do think they’re very much in the mix. They were definitely interested in him. Among the top bidders last week and I don’t think that’s changed.”
