Yzerman: Lightning could look to trade for veteran defenseman
/Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman was on NHL Network’s NHL Tonight on Thursday evening.
On if he’s at all concerned with his blueline, given the injuries, to the point where he might have to make a move leading up to the trade deadline:
“Well, we expect to get Matt Carle back sometime right around the trade deadline. Roughly give or take six weeks. We’ll get him back, so that will be like a deadline addition. Radko Gudas is out. Those are guys that were two of our top six at the start of the year.
“We’ve been quite fortunate. Nikita Nesterov has come up from Syracuse and done quite well. Mark Barberio has filled in well. Luke Witkowski played his first NHL game last night and based on one game, he certainly deserves a second game.
“So the top four have done well. Hedman, Stralman, Garrison, and Sustr. But depending on how these young guys do right now, it kind of will determine if we look to add somebody. Just somebody with more experience.”
