Dreger on Red Wings' success, Holland's trade thoughts
/Darren Dreger was on NHL Network’s NHL Tonight on Thursday evening.
On what he sees Ken Holland doing:
“Well, this is a great story because this has been a transition year – was supposed to be – for the Detroit Red Wings – yet this team is soundly in the playoff picture now, and some are wondering if he’s going to do something more dramatic to better their chances going into the post-season. We know that Ken Holland has been looking for that piece defensively for so long. That right-shot defenseman we’ve talked about how many times on this show over the last several months.
“He’ll continue to search for that. But in the meantime, talking about transition, he likes what he has and the power that he has up front. You’ve got Sheahan, who has been a great developing player. Nyquist and Tatar, to augment what you have in the experience you have in Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. It just doesn’t ever seem to want to slow down.
“And as much as they thought they were going to step backward when Jimmy Howard went down with a considerable injury; in fact, Mrazek just grabs the reigns and leads the Detroit Red Wings to additional wins. So they find a way to win and there’s no reason to think that that won’t continue.”
