Benning: Canucks would like to add "one more scorer"

Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Wednesday evening.

On if he’ll definitely look at being a buyer at the trade deadline, if his team remains in position:

“We’re going to see what’s in the marketplace. If something makes sense for us to add a piece to help the team win, you know, we’ll do it. But with an eye on the future too. We have good young prospects in our system. Kids we’re developing in Utica. Good draft picks that are having good years in junior. We don’t want to give up any of those assets, but if something makes sense to make our team better we’ll definitely look at it.”

On what he thinks his team’s biggest need is right now:

“Well, I think if we could add maybe one more scorer, a guy that can – We work hard every night. Sometimes it seems to me we have a hard time finishing off our chances. But having said that, scorers are hard to come by.

“Nick Jensen has played real good for us in Utica. He looks like he’s taken that next step in his development, so maybe we have a guy in our own backyard.”
