Friedman: Eric Staal is important for next generation of Hurricanes
/Elliotte Friedman was on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Friday afternoon.
On Eric Staal:
“I had a chance to talk to Ron Francis this morning. I’m telling you this – I’m going to be really surprised if Eric Staal goes anywhere. I believed it last week when a couple of teams told me they think they don’t see a chance it happens this year.
“I had a talk with Ron Francis this morning just about how Eric Staal sat next to him when Eric Staal started his career. When young players came to Carolina after, they sat next to Rod Brind’Amour. And now when young players come to Carolina, they sit next to Eric Staal.
“They may have Connor McDavid next year. They may have Jack Eichel next year. I’ve gotta tell you. After talking to Ron Francis today, I’d be surprised if they’re not sitting next to Eric Staal at the start of next season.”
