McKenzie: Staal brothers, Ward have no desire to leave Hurricanes

Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN’s NHL Live on Wednesday evening.

On what the chances are of guys like Eric Staal or Cam Ward being moved:

“Right now, none. And that also includes Jordan Staal. And he’s younger than his brother, but by the same token you’ve got to talk about the Carolina Hurricanes closer to the bottom of the league than the top, in the running for McDavid and Eichel. But here’s the thing – both Staal brothers and Cam Ward have no-move clauses and they have no desire at this moment in time to consider going anywhere other than Carolina.

“And to this point in time, even though Carolina is one of the worst teams in the league, Ronnie Francis has not gone to these players and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got deals on the table for you guys. Do you want to waive?’

“So right now it’s status quo. I’m sure this might get revisited before the deadline one more time, but as of this moment, I don’t anticipate Carolina is going to be in a big offload motion, and I don’t believe that the Staal brothers and Cam Ward are looking to get out.”
