Linden still compiling Canucks' GM candidate list

Canucks president of hockey operations Trevor Linden shared with The Vancouver Province that he met with Boston Bruins president Cam Neely on Thursday.

Linden discussed how excited he is with his job, but also acknowledged the significance of each decision he'll need to make and noted, "this isn’t a two-week project."

On the subject of the search for a new GM:

“The timeline has been very, very, well, there hasn’t been a lot of time,” Linden said. “We’re putting a list together. We’re trying to put a schedule together. The one thing I’ll say is I spoke to several GMs and I haven’t got any push back on timing, whether they’re playing or not.”

On whether or not the new GM will decide on the coach:

“I’ve got some thoughts there. I’m not going to go into it one way or another. There are pieces of the puzzle that have to fit together.”

UPDATE

The Globe and Mail offered this tidbit late Thursday afternoon, as part of a larger look at Linden's GM search:

“The request process is under way with some verbal commitments from several managers,” said team spokesman Chris Brumwell by e-mail on Thursday afternoon. “Trevor expects to begin discussions with candidates in the very near future.”

UPDATE

As far as his GM search, Linden told The Vancouver Sun, “I’m not trying to have favourites right now. I’m trying to put a list together of people I feel I need to talk to. The one thing I can’t afford to do is have a list that’s too long, so I’m really trying to zone in to where I feel the best candidate will come from.

“You speak to people who have gone through this process and gather information from everyone you talk to. Just talking hockey. The willingness from people to help in any way, I’ve been really encouraged by that. (But) I have not interviewed any candidates.”

Some great quotes from Linden on how energized he is with this job and he also touches on there being no rush on a decision on Tortorella.

"I came into this with a completely open mind and I’m not going to be pressured into a situation of what people think my timeline should be.”
