Hitchcock: Physicality, hits are overrated

There are a handful of coaches on whom we can count for exceptional hockey quotes.

Not just someone in the game of hockey opening his mouth. Hockey. Quotes.

Darryl Sutter. Mike Babcock.

Ken Hitchcock is also one of those notable bench bosses.

“I think physicality is the most overrated term in sports,” Hitchcock said, via TwinCities.com. “Physicality has nothing to do with hitting people – it has everything to do with protecting the puck and that’s physicality. The other stuff is useless information. Anyone can go and run over somebody and hit somebody. It’s the most useless piece of information.”

Also: “The worst stat in the league for me is hits,” Hitchcock said. “It tells you nothing other than if you lead the game in hits, it usually means you didn’t have the puck. The best team I’ve seen, Detroit in their heyday have five hits. (Their opponent) chased the puck all night.”
