'Boring Sean Monahan' Twitter account has NHLers laughing

Stories have been popping up from time to time online about the simple, yet surprisingly funny, @boringmonahan Twitter account - which is a parody of Calgary Flames rookie Sean Monahan.

I scored 2 goals tonight and everyone was very happy. Joe Colborne said I'm glad you have 17 goals and I said actually Joe it's now 18.

Taylor Hall, via The Edmonton Journal: “Funny you should ask. I was talking to T.J. Galiardi last night — he’s a childhood friend of mine — and I asked him if it was McGrattan who ran that Twitter account. He’s the only person he follows and he always tweets about Grats, but he said no.”

The NHL trade deadline is next Wednesday. If a team wants to make a trade on Thursday they won't be able to because it's past the deadline.

Meanwhile, the REAL Sean Monahan has a good sense of humour about the parody account, even though he has no idea who runs it.

“I’ve tried to find out for a long time now. I still think it’s Derek Smith but I don’t know. It is funny and it doesn’t offend me at all . . . We just joke around about it.”
