Burke: Flames are 'open for business'
/President of hockey operations Brian Burke is still running the show for the Calgary Flames in terms of being the interim GM, so it'll continue to be his call as to what happens leading into the trade deadline.
“I’ve talked to all the GMs. I know what teams are trying to do. I know what their capability is, cap-wise,” Burke told The Calgary Sun. “We’ve done all the work internally to get ready, which teams we think will make the playoffs, which teams we don’t think (will). And now we’re ready to see if something makes sense.”
Is there anyone the Flames wouldn't deal?
“Wayne Gretzky got traded, so is there really an untouchable?” Burke said. “If someone offers you 10 first-round picks for any player on your team, don’t you take it?
“Now, are there players that would be very difficult to get out of here? Yes. I’m not going to give you the list.
“Everyone’s focused on the guys with expiring contracts, but we’re open for business for hockey deals, too. Those are rental deals. We’re open for hockey deals, too.”
