LeBrun: Jets' Cheveldayoff "searching for a top-six forward"
/Pierre LeBrun was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Tuesday evening.
On what the Winnipeg Jets might be thinking with Evander Kane out:
“Heading into the holiday break, the Jets had already told teams that they were looking for a top-nine forward, like probably more of a second or third line player. That has now been adjusted with the long-term injury to Evander Kane. They are now searching for a top-six forward, which, as you know, do not grow on trees. But it’s what they’re hoping to get here in the next few weeks or maybe over the next month because Kevin Cheveldayoff, the GM, has been a really patient guy since he took over. Hasn’t made a lot of moves. In fact, has kind of, I think, annoyed some fans in Winnipeg. But he’s willing to make some now because his team is in a playoff spot, really for the first time since hockey’s come back to Winnipeg... and I think he wants to reward the incredible efforts of both head coach Paul Maurice and his players. I mean, here’s a team missing three of their top defencemen and now their top winger, and they keep finding ways to hang in there. And I think they want to reward that by going out and adding some help. So we’ll see what they can come up with.”
