LeBrun: Oilers not driving Hall trade discussions

Pierre LeBrun was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Tuesday afternoon.

On how people say the Oilers will eventually have to trade one of the kids, and how now Taylor Hall’s name is popping up:

“Well, it’s popping up because it’s media-driven and it’s also driven by other teams that are hoping. It hasn’t been driven by anyone inside the Oilers management group. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen at some point. I think that if and when Hall is ever put out there, it’s going to be in the off-season, because that’s the only way you can make that deal.

“Think of Tyler Seguin. That had to be an off-season deal for the Boston Bruins. You had to make sure you got enough people involved where you’re getting what you think is the proper deal anyway. And I think that would be the same case for Hall, again, IF, Craig MacTavish ever feels that he’s going down that route. And maybe he will.

“I don’t think Nugent-Hopkins will ever be put out there. I mean, just from the pure fact that he’s their only centre right now, until you wait for Draisaitl to develop.

“And Eberle for sure, at some point, they’d be willing to move, if not right now. But because he hasn’t been that good, I’m not sure what the return is right now, mid-season.

“So all three of those guys have different variables attached to them. I think Hall easily nets you the biggest package. But I don’t know how you do that mid-season. I don’t really see the market developing enough for it where you have bidders in terms of what you’re looking to get. I think June is a great time for those type of deals.”
