Friedman on trades, Kings, Bruins, Sabres, Stewart, Blackhawks, Morin

Elliotte Friedman was on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Friday afternoon.

On if all’s quiet on the Western trade front, in the state of California at least:

“I haven’t heard a ton. I know the Kings have some things that they’re going to have to do. One of their younger depth players might end up getting traded. There’s been a lot of interest reported in Jordan Nolan. Dwight King. Kyle Clifford has been tied with the Oilers in the past. I think they could deal any one of those players, if they wanted to, fairly easily. And their cap situation says eventually they’re going to have to do something.

“The only other thing I really heard much of this week was pretty minor. The Chris Stewart Boston thing has constantly been out there. I think the Bruins and Sabres are getting to a point where they’re probably going to have to make a decision.

“Jeremy Morin, young center from the Blackhawks – I had a couple of teams that told me that he wasn’t available. Although Stan Bowman didn’t respond to a request I had just to ask about it. So I don’t know where that stands right now.

“I mean, I’m not hearing a ton of stuff, I’ve got to tell you. Although the last time I was told there wasn’t much going on out there, there was a small flurry of deals involving the Canadiens and things like that.

“I mean, we’ve got one team in their trade freeze already and that’s Calgary, your neighbours to the south. But with another week to go, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of testing and seeing, ‘Hey, what are you interested in, have you got anything that we might want.’ ”
