LeBrun: Wild nearly traded for Enroth instead of Dubnyk

Pierre LeBrun was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 on Thursday afternoon.

As part of a discussion on the Jhonas Enroth trade:

"Now, Minnesota almost got Enroth last month when the Wild were going through their real deep funk and couldn’t get a save out of Darcy Kuemper. Chuck Fletcher, on the same day that he traded for Devan Dubnyk I’m told, almost pulled the trigger on Enroth.

“But at the end of the day, the Sabres wanted a second round pick. And as we know, Arizona just wanted a third for Dubnyk. And that was the difference. I think Minnesota kind looked at Enroth and Dubnyk very evenly.

“But the Minnesota Wild have traded away a lot of picks and prospects the last few years making a bunch of trades, and they really value that second round pick they currently have. First of all, they don’t have one next year. The 2016 second round pick was dealt in the Matt Moulson deal last year. So it’s going to take a lot for Chuck Fletcher to deal that second. Although now, with all of those injuries up front, maybe he gets forced to.”
