Dreger: Kane could be Burke's Kessel trade for Flames

Darren Dreger was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Tuesday morning.

On the Calgary Flames and the trade deadline:

"I think Calgary could be one of those teams that is interested in Evander Kane as well. And maybe that’s as complicated – Although I don’t know if it’s as complicated with Vancouver or maybe a bit less or more. I guess that would depend on the viewpoint of management in Winnipeg.

“But again, when I think of Brian Burke and whatever sort of influence he would have over Brad Treliving, that’s what I think of. This whole Calgary dynamic this year smells a lot of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the day when Brian Burke expedited the process. He thought that his team was further ahead, and he jumped on the opportunity to add a star young piece in Phil Kessel. And I wonder if they aren’t, behind closed doors, having similar conversations about Evander Kane.

“Different players obviously, but again, Calgary fits into that group of teams who would love to add that 20-something piece. And if they’re going to do anything, I think that would be something they would show some interest in.”
