Dreger: Bergevin looking to bolster Canadiens by trade deadline

Darren Dreger was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Tuesday morning.

On what Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens may be looking to acquire by the trade deadline, since fans seem split between adding defensive depth or last year's Vanek-like forward:

"Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens do a nice job. Obviously he’s doing what he has to do. He’s investigating opportunities. Talking to the right people, managers, etc. But there’s no media outcry. It’s not like he’s whispering in my ear or others’ to say, ‘In a perfect world, here’s what we’d do.’

“So what we have to do in the Insider business is try and get to those teams where there might be a connection to Montreal and has been some dialog. Maybe not negotiations on a trade, but some dialog.

“And exactly what you said is exactly what’s gone on to date. Bergevin has kicked tires on Western Conference defencemen, and he’s also let it be known he’d like to add a top-6 forward. Is it conceivable that he does both? It’s going to be tricky, again, because of the dollars that always included when you’re go through these type of trade discussions.

“But I absolutely think he’ll do whatever he can to add one of those pieces, if not both.”
