Friedman: Rangers interested in Hurricanes' Sekera

Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Friday morning.

As part of a larger discussion on the New York Rangers:

“I’m really curious to see what they are going to do deadline-wise. They don’t have a lot of cap room. I know – I believe they’re one of the teams that really likes Sekera from Carolina. I think they’ve kind of circled around him. Whenever the Hurricanes make their decision on what they’re going to do there, I think they’re one of the teams that’s interested.

“I think they look at it like, ‘We have a chance to win, and we’ll see what we can add.’ They don’t have a lot of flexibility. And I think this is a big year for them too because if you look and see what they have to deal with after this year: You’ve got to deal with Zuccarello. You’ve got to deal with Marc Staal. You’ve got to deal with Hagelin long-term at some point. They have a lot of decisions that they are going to have to make with the players on their roster. So I think they know this is a year – and Marty St. Louis is an unrestricted free agent after this year - so you kind of know this is going to be a year where you’re going to have to go for it.”
