Dreger: Wild's Fletcher may seek goaltending upgrade
/Darren Dreger was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Thursday morning.
On how he expects things to play out in Minnesota:
“I spent some time chatting with Chuck Fletcher yesterday. He wasn’t at practice, he had a meeting – but he shares Yeo’s frustration. I didn’t get the sense in that conversation that Mike Yeo was in jeopardy of losing his job, at least in the moment. If Minnesota continues to flounder, then all bets are off, and of course his job is going to be questioned.
“But it’s goaltending, and it goes a lot deeper than that. You’ve got the Zach Parise family situation, which the Wild are highly supportive of, but that’s a tremendous loss to that team. Again, we’re building excuses, and that’s what Mike Yeo, in his verbal tirade yesterday during practice, is trying to eliminate.
“But I also know that Chuck Fletcher – we talked about Doug Armstrong, we talked a little bit about Peter Chiarelli trying to improve his club – Chuck Fletcher is going to try to do the same thing. He’s not hanging it all on his goaltenders, but I’d be real surprised if the Minnesota Wild didn’t do something to try and improve their goaltending.”
