McKenzie: Coyotes' Michalek "might be a real good fit" for Lightning
/Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN’s NHL Live on Wednesday evening.
On how defensive depth is a concern for the Tampa Bay Lightning with Matt Carle injured:
“It is. They’ve got a very good defense. They’ve managed to really bring along some young players on the blueline, but they’re also missing Radko Gudas, who is a tough defenseman. So Carle a puck-mover, Gudas not there.
“So there are looking around in the trade market. Steve Yzerman trying to find something. One defenseman who is eminently available and might be a real good fit for the Tampa Bay Lightning might be Zbynek Michalek of the Arizona Coyotes. An unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. We talked last week – not a fire sale per say, but if it’s not nailed down for the long term in Arizona, general manager Don Maloney is going to be moving it along.
“So Michalek is available, but so are a lot of other guys. Lot of teams looking for defensemen, and a lot of defensemen available. Guys like Jeff Petry, among others.”
