Hockey Night in Canada: Saturday's Headlines
/Elliotte Friedman and Damien Cox were on Sportsnet's Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday evening.
Cox: Leafs looking to open contract negotiations with Mike Santorelli and Cody Franson.
Cox: Lots of speculation about the future of Dave Nonis. There is no chance Brendan Shanahan will be the GM.
Cox: "Finally, when other teams come calling to the Leafs and start asking for players, who's the No. 1 player they ask for? Defenceman Morgan Rielly."
Friedman: "Just in my general nerdiness of trying to look and see if you can make trades with the salary cap and all that, can't help but wonder if they really want big changes of scenery - like a Dion Phaneuf for Mike Richards thing. Because L.A. might need new defensive help. Voynov out. Knows Sutter. Mike Richards, if maybe they're going to move him, I wonder if that's the kind of thing those two teams would look at."
Friedman: "Chris Stewart. His name has been out a lot from Buffalo. Calgary is a team that has been linked to him for quite a bit. Another team we're hearing that may have interest in Chris Stewart are the Nashville Predators, who entered the weekend as the No. 1 team in the National Hockey League."
Cox: Dan Carcillo will have an in-person hearing.
Friedman: "Chris Tanev went on Vancouver radio the other day and said they are hoping to have more conversation with Chris Tanev. It sounds like serious contract talks with him will begin this week."
Friedman: Las Vegas has one of its first season ticket holders in two-time World Series of Poker Player of the Year in Daniel Negreanu. Season ticket parade will begin February 9 or 10. Hoping to get 10,000 contributions made by the end of March.
