McKenzie: Gaudreau has "electrifying skill level"

Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1050 Thursday afternoon.

On Johnny Gaudreau and the buzz he’s creating with the Calgary Flames:

“He might be that little guy that’s got that ‘special something.’ Because everywhere he goes, he’ s a dynamic presence. I saw him in Penticton. All he did was score highlight-reel goals, game after game. And as camp started, in the first game that he played... he generated a lot of shots, was in on a lot, created a lot off the rush.

“Again, the hockey – the levels are going to go up here in the next week or two. And I know they’re trying, maybe, to temper the expectation level a little bit - but geez, the kid’s so exciting. He’s electrifying skill level in terms of the hands and the feet, and because he’s smaller, it enhances the level of skill, the level of speed. It’s like this waterbug just flying all over the place, making people look stupid.

“I think he’s going to get some NHL games. I’m not sure, at the end of the day - he may just well play himself into a spot. It’s still a little early in camp to say that.

“But if there’s  a 5-foot-7 – they call him, I think, 5-foot-8, and it doesn’t look like he is. And he doesn’t weigh a lot either – but he’s got a real dynamic quality to him that not a lot of people have.”
