McKenzie on Blackhawks' trade thoughts

Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1050 Friday afternoon.

On the Chicago Blackhawks needing to get under the cap and what that might mean on the trade front:

“I know Stan Bowman in Chicago all season long - all summer long - was trying to trade Nick Leddy. Kris Versteeg’s name was also mentioned prominently. Not a lot of market value for Kris Versteeg right now, but Nick Leddy is a guy that teams are interested in.

“And who knows? Maybe he’s gotta package both those guys together and throw in a real good prospect to incentivize a team to say ‘I’m prepared to take on Versteeg’s contract even though I don’t want it’ and you can do that with a team that has cap space and doesn’t mind paying the money to basically use their roster as a dumping ground for a guy like Kris Versteeg and pick up a good prospect.

“So somewhere along the line the Hawks will probably have to pay the price to get under the cap, or they’ll make a hockey trade.”
