Schneider simply wants to be Devils' No. 1 goalie

Cory Schneider has one season remaining on his current three-year contract, and the goaltender told The Star-Ledger he’s looking for some assurances he’ll get around 60 starts next year as the No. 1 netminder.

Schneider was also asked if Martin Brodeur’s future – the veteran will be testing free agency this summer to see what’s out there – will factor into his choice on an extension.

“Not necessarily. That’s out of my control, but that’s part of the discussions,” Schneider said. “Not just him, per se, but anybody who they would want to bring in or call up. It’s a discussion about if they want me to be the guy going forward, we have to figure out that part of it.
“It’s not directly centered around Marty. We’ll probably find out in a few weeks what is going to happen.”
