Oshie deflects Olympic 'national hero' talk
/The Pioneer Press caught up with St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie over the weekend when he was in St. Paul, visiting family.
On the 'national hero' reference following his Sochi shootout performance against the Russians for Team USA:
"The real heroes wear camouflage. You say 'American hero' and the first thing you think of is the people who serve to protect our country. I don't want (people) thinking that because I scored a couple goals in a shootout that I was above them."
On his life since Sochi:
"I got some more Twitter followers and some more people supporting me, but other than that, nothing's really changed," he said. "I did a commercial with Enterprise (Rent-A-Car) that was filmed at our practice rink in St. Louis. That was the big thing that panned out. It was a great experience. It was the coolest thing to see all the little things that go into a 30-second commercial."
