Horvat hopes for roster spot with Canucks

Vancouver Canucks prospect Bo Horvat joined Team 1040 via phone on Monday.

On what sort of strides he has taken as a player this season:

"I've always wanted to work on my speed and my skating and I think that's gotten a lot better this year and the pace of my game, so hopefully I can show my improvements in the Memorial Cup doing that kind of stuff.

"Definitely, I think my offence showed a little more this year. I got a little bit more points. So I think if I can continue to keep doing all that at the Mem Cup hopefully I'll... give my team the best chance to win."

On if he's followed the management changes taking place with the Canucks:

"Yeah, yeah, I've heard about it. I haven't talked to anybody from the organization about it yet or anything like that, but yeah, I've definitely been reading about it and hearing about it on TV and stuff like that. I've been trying to keep up as much as I can, but we've been so busy training and trying to get ready for the Memorial Cup it's kind of been hard to keep up with it. I'm trying to do my best."

On if he feels he has a chance to make the Canucks in the fall:

"Yeah, I sure hope so. I'm going to give it everything I've got in camp and everything like that and try to prove myself. It starts all at Memorial Cup to prove myself and proving I can play at the next level. I think I've definitely grown as a player this year, so hopefully I can continue to do that through Memorial Cup and get ready for camp in the summer."

On if he feels he had a fair chance at camp for 2013-14:

"Yeah, I wasn't too sure what to expect when I went in, but you know, I just wanted to go in there and just get a feel for it and see what to expect and what it takes to get to the next level and they gave me all the opportunity to do that during exhibition games. I played every single exhibition game there was to be played with the team. Just that experience alone, seeing that high caliber of play and how hard it is and what it takes to get to the next level... I was just humbled to be there and just to stay there for that long."
