Schneider thriving as Devils go-to option

Cory Schneider has been the chosen one for New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer with the season's playoff hopes on the line and The Star-Ledger notes that's a very satisfying feeling for the goaltender.

“Sure. I did it for most of last season. I played 15 or 16 out of the last 18 down the stretch last year and got us into the playoffs,” he said of his final season with the Canucks.

“I haven’t done it as much as Marty might have, but I’ve done it before and it’s fun. It’s fun to play these games. This is why you play. You don’t play not to make the playoffs or not have important games. You want to be the guy and have that responsibility, so it’s good.”

He added: “I’m feeling pretty good. I felt good over the weekend. It’s nice to get right back in there. You think less,” he said. “You go play and I think that’s when you play your best.

“We’re going to need good goaltending, whether it’s from me or Marty. Right now it’s me. I have to be sharp. Right now I can’t have a night off.”
