Canes' Malhotra not retiring anytime soon
/Masterton Trophy nominee and Carolina Hurricanes forward Manny Malhotra, a former member of the Canucks, phoned in to Team 1040 in Vancouver Wednesday afternoon.
On whether or not he sees coaching or being part of an NHL franchise in his future once he retires:
"Perhaps. You know, last year when I had the opportunity to kind of look around the organization and look at different aspects of it; the player development side, a little bit of the coaching side when I went to Chicago and when I went down to Kalamazoo I saw a bit of that.
"I love the game and I love being around the game. Being as close to the ice is something I found I enjoyed more as opposed to being up in the press box, but you know that's something that's going to be a family decision. There's so many things that come into the equation now as far as kids' schooling, where we are as a family, where we want to settle down.
"And obviously, as we all know, the instability of a coaching position is probably more so than the instability of a player. Whether we want to continue that as a family is going to be a decision we're going to have once that feeling that I don't want to play any more comes to pass, but I don't see that happening in the near future."
